Welcome to Functional Magic
“Tricia’s whimsical, conversational writing style makes you feel like you're talking with one of your closest friends who always has the best advice and knows exactly how to support you to be the best version of yourself." - a happy reader:)
Hi! I just discovered this word from the middle ages, so now I’m going to use it because it describes exactly how I feel about you, my dearworthy reader! I am so thrilled and honored you chose to be here.
Your time and spirit matter deeply to me and I write so that you’ll find something useful on these digital pages: connection, hope, self-compassion, and permission to discover ways to do life that align with your true nature.
Functional Magic is for those of us who are tired of the conventional how-to’s out there about how to organize your life to get things done in responsible, functional ways and are looking for something that brings delight and magic to our full to-do lists.
Maybe you feel a little (or a lot) different so the regular rules for playing the game here don’t quite fit. Maybe you’re just plain old tired by all the changes life brings to your full plate and are looking for a different way to function that doesn’t leave you feeling so worn out. Functional Magic can definitely help with that. I discovered the unconventional strategies you’ll find on these pages by necessity and they continue to prove useful in the face of all the fun, wild, and challenging changes of being a human here.
What is Functional Magic?
This is where neuroscience meets soul-centered wisdom. Here you will find unconventional strategies for success that don’t lose sight of the fact that the whole purpose of functioning is fulfillment.
What readers say:
I am honored and delighted that I was able to publish a book about my wonky approach to productivity for young adults that found success for the adults who picked it up too and commented that they were: "genuinely inspired and motivated," discovering that I share "all the 'secrets' of success that make us healthy, happy and whole." But what matters most is how these insights transform real lives:
"Amazing guidance, action items and reassuring perspective from an expert in the field. You feel like the author is working with you, and that no problem is unsolvable. Amazingly helpful."
"Tricia has the rare ability to take lofty concepts grounded in research and make them approachable... Her narratives infuse her advice with authenticity and familiarity, rendering it relatable and remarkably personal."
This gave me the nudge to create something for us adults here because the principles remain the same. Peace, play, meaningful connection, and delight aren’t just nice-to-have’s in life, they are baked into our design as requirements to access the part of our brain that supports our functioning.

Why Functional Magic?
The magic isn't in perfect productivity systems or one-size-fits-all solutions. It's in discovering the permission neuroscience gives us to build a life that celebrates rather than suppresses our natural tendencies. Yes, I still occasionally frequently lose my phone, but I promise I have a special knack for helping people find their true ways of thriving in the world.
"She strikes the delicate balance between insightful guidance and relatable storytelling."
About Me
When my lifetime dream of being an author finally arrived in the mail in the form of boxes of my newly published book, I procrastinated opening it up for TWO WEEKS! I realized something here was off. I loved the books I made and the process of creating them. I loved the wisdom I gained from twenty years as an educator and learning specialist that went into them. But something inside had changed that I was avoiding. My resistance to opening that box and coming face to face with my deeply buried dream of being a writer, like for real, was stubborn and strong and didn’t want to pull back that tape and hold my sweet books in my hands.
It took years of applying the principles I wrote in my book for young adults to my own life to find the courage to look my real desires in the face clearly and say, “Alright, let’s do it your way now.”
I stuck a notecard with St. Catherine of Siena’s words on it in my office that reads: “All the way to heaven is heaven.” I do my best to find out what living that way looks like each day, even when doing the dishes, sitting in carpool lines, navigating challenging health diagnoses I was NOT expecting, and figuring out yet again what to feed these children I made who have this annoying habit of needing to eat. And I have to say, it’s really working for me. Those books are out of the box and I’m hot to trot on writing more.
Now, I blend my experience in the neuroscience of executive functioning, especially for creative, curious, sensitive souls, and what I can stand by in my own personal experience to help women transform their daily functioning into sources of deep fulfillment.
“For those willing to take on this challenge with students or even for themselves, your life will change."
